First Soccer Game

Oh my. Today was the first soccer game of the season! It should have been last weekend, but it was rained out. Today turned out to be a beautiful day, but it was freezing this morning. I'm glad it wasn't me running around in soccer shorts. The kids were cute. The boys on Ben's team seem to be really sweet. You can tell that several of them have played soccer before. One little boy wouldn't even get out on the field (he was fine at practice), and Ben, well, the pictures pretty much tell it all. I hope he gets over his shyness, but I'm proud of him for at least getting out there even though he felt uncomfortable. Goooooooooooooooooooooo Fury!!!!

Each set of 6 kids got to play for 5 minutes, then the next set of kids were put out to play. Ben was on the "first string", hehe. The very first play of the game, (the kids kicking for th ball??? I have no idea anything about soccer lingo...) one of the kids from the other team ran in and kicked the ball (HARD) and it smacked Ben right in the face. Poor little guy. He cried. It had to have hurt. His little face was red all day from the hit. He got over it pretty quickly and went back into the game. The first few switches looked something like this.

Balancing on heels.

Bray was having the time of his life.

He isn't really licking the ball...he is just concentrating really hard.

Meanwhile, the other kids are really getting into it.

A little time out and pep talk?

Ben's coach, Christine, picked him to do a corner kick.

I think he kicked it about 2 feet, so he got a re-do.

Brent and the dad of the little boy that wouldn't go in trying to get a little team spirit going on....

Ben finally got into it a little bit more, but don't let this picture fool ya. He had no intention of kicking that ball.

I hope he comes out of his shell a little as the season progresses. He does look handsome in his little uniform. And blue is still his favorite color. Score!
